Over the years, different social networking sites have become popular with college students such as Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and MySpace. Of these, students have found Twitter to be very useful from the point of view of being connected continuously, and due to the ability to give and receive updates throughout the day.

Educational Hacks
Educational Twitter applications help students be in touch with their faculty members, fellow students at any time of the day. You can clarify doubts, discuss issues with colleagues and get resolutions immediately. Twitter applications allow you to start discussions on a project, set up reminders, and follow the career of a top professional in your field of interest and more.

RetweetMe
Allows students to set up reminders and alerts so that you never forget to study for a final or attend class on time.

Twitter Tools
You can use some Twitter applications to keep track of courier packages, keep out spammers, post your blog quickly and even keep track of the kind of food you are eating and whether you are sticking to the recommended diet plan.

TrackThis
This tool allows you track your packages from USPS, DHL, FedEx and UPS so that you know when your dorm decorations or books will arrive.

Email Twitter
If you are nervous about logging on to Twitter from your laptop in the library or during class, you can use this application to access your account via your email.

The Twitter Blacklist
Avoid spammers and annoying users by updating and checking this list.

Smart Network Applications
You can use Twitter to network with friends, work partners, provide them useful links on topics of their interest and generally make communication that is more meaningful.

Tiny Tweet
Lets you share links with your friends and followers, instead of just posting a status update to let your study partner know you are waiting at the library.

Social Twitter
Through certain applications, you can begin your quest for new contacts, add photos and use the RSVP tracking facility to your advantage. You can directly add photos taken on your cell to your blog.

MobiFeedLive
Using the MobiFeedLive facility, allows you to find out instantly what people are saying about a particular topic by setting up a keyword alert system.

Twitter Card
You can use the Twitter Card to introduce yourself and even post a photograph. This can be your business card for all practical purposes.

Broadcast
With these applications, you can update everybody in your group about your activities and other information rather than using email.

Event track
Before committing to any meeting or joint study session, you can do a quick check as to who all are also in the session and will be attending.

Foodry
This will enable you to provide your friends with a quick update on the eat outs and restaurants generally favored by them or you.

TwitterSnooze
This is one more feature that lets your friends know that you are busy currently and would contact them later.

As is obvious from the above, Twitter is a social networking tool is of great value and it is no wonder that many people are increasingly using it. As with any such application or utility, as long as students learn to use them positively, they can be of great utility value and can foster a better student life.

To be honest, I’ve only just become familiar with the internet and how to use it – my kids laugh at me and say I’m living in the stone age. I didn’t know what all the hype was about, but now I understand how using the internet can open up so many doors for you. I was basically made redundant and started looking for new jobs in the same field I’ve worked in for years, when I came across NVQ qualifications and vocational qualifications at City & Guilds.

They have been so incredibly supportive and helpful in my retraining. I had no idea what I wanted to do but the advisors are so helpful and friendly, they really know how to gar you towards the right career for you. I thought I would feel silly, speaking to advisors about my career at my age. But they really put me at ease. And they let me study part time so I could still work. The whole experience has been fantastic, and I am even considering having another look at their NVQ qualifications soon to see if I can do another one. For me, getting a City & Guilds qualification has just meant progression in every aspect of my life – I thoroughly recommend it.

Most of us have been taught that a college degree is our ticket to a successful life of achievement and fulfillment in a career that we have chosen rather than for which we have just settled. However, as it often does, life has a way of stepping in and changing the direction of even the best laid plans. While we may have certainly planned on heading straight to college following high school – as is the socially acceptable norm – the reality of our situation at the time may have meant that we had to make different plans.

That being said, not earning a college degree does not necessarily mean a life without success. But it can tend to limit options. And for those of us who were not able – or did not choose – to earn a college degree initially, the possibility doing so may still be foremost in our minds. Luckily, the modern world has given those interested in earning a college degree another option – an online degree.

The computer has most certainly changed the way that we live, play, communicate, and even work. Doors that were once logistically closed to us are now open as the Internet brings the world around us into clearer focus, essentially eliminating geographical boundaries. No longer is it necessary to commute to a college for weekly classes when accredited universities and colleges – that offer traditional classes on campus, online classes, or a combination of both – have made the earning of an online degree an option.

To earn an online degree students are asked to “attend” online lectures where they are free to read the material and complete the assignments at times that are convenient for them; an unmatched benefit for those juggling work, school, and family priorities.
